Encounter #67: Ascension of Jesus Read: Mark 16:19-20
Before Jesus physically Ascended in to Heaven, He gave His final commands: Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-18; Luke 24: 50-53 and see John 21:25. Jesus then physically, with His Resurrected body ascended or was taken up and received up into Heaven. Wow! He went into the clouds and disappeared out of view. No other "religious" leader even ascended into Heaven physically as Jesus did. If they claimed to do so, they were not telling the truth.
When Jesus reached Heaven He sat down at His Father's right hand. This indicated a seat of authority, power and honor. Acts 1:1-11 states that two angels came down as Jesus went up. They told the disciples to go and preach the Word. They went and preached everywhere, and the Lord was working with them with signs following. The signs were indications that God's Word was true, established and guarantied. God still confirms His Word with signs of salvation, healings, wonders, deliverances and miracles today.
Why is the Ascension of Jesus so important? Because:
1) Jesus has given gifts to the Church: Pastors, Evangelists, Prophets, Teachers and Apostles (Eph. 4:8-11)
2) The Holy Spirit has come. John 16:7-16. The Holy Spirit's coming at Pentecost (Acts 2) is proof Jesus has made it to Heaven.
3) Jesus returned to where He was originally (John 1:1; John 17).
4) Jesus is Head over all things pertaining to the Church (Eph. 1:22-23).
5) Jesus fulfilled Prophecy: Psalm 68:18; Psalm 110:1.
6) He prays for us: Romans 8:34; Heb. 7:25.
7) He is now our advocate, lawyer, counselor: 1 John 2:1.
8) Angels, authorities, powers and demons are subjected to Him: 1 Peter 3:22.
9) Jesus gives repentance to Israel & forgiveness of sins: Acts 5:31.
10) Jesus holds the keys of death and hell: Rev. 1:18.
11) Jesus is going to descend again: 1 Thess. 4:16.
12) Jesus appears in the Father's presence for us: Heb. 9:24.
13. Let's hold on: Heb. 4:14.
This same Jesus is coming back! Are you ready to meet Him? If not, repent of your sins, believe He died for you on the cross, shed His spotless Blood and take Him in to your heart today.
Amen....so be it...truly...verily...may it be fulfilled...The End...….
Prayer: Father, thank you for sending Jesus. Give me the strength and grace to proclaim the good news. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
Application: Tell someone that Jesus died for them, rose from the dead and ascended to heaven.
Encounter Jesus: Receive the power, anointing and strength of the risen and ascended Jesus.
