The Dove and The Holy Spirit
Ever wonder why
the Holy Spirit is
always symbolized as a Dove? Here are some interesting points to ponder:
- A dove has 9 main feathers on each wing; powering its’ flight; keeping it lifted.
- It is noted in Scripture that there are 9 Gifts of the Holy Spirit (I Cor. 12:7-10) and 9 Fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23)… ‘9 for each wing.’ The Gifts and Fruit keep us lifted for our Godly journey.
- There are 5 main feathers of a doves tail.
- The doves tail feathers are like the steering rudder of an airplane; assisting in guiding the dove in flight.
- The 5 main feathers are a perfect picture of the 5-Fold Ministry of the Church, listed in Ephesians 4:11-12. They are: Apostle, Prophet, Pastor, Teacher and Evangelist.
- The dove is unique from other birds in that instead of its wings pointing downward (toward its tail); the wings curl upward toward its head.
- The Holy Spirit does not speak of Himself, but points believers to Christ; the Head of the Church.
Prayer:
Father-God your
beautiful creations, like the dove, point us to your greater glory and truth.
May we always look only to you just as all creation glorifies. In Jesus' Name. Amen†
